Sonic Transmissions Records

Sonic Transmissions Records is a direct result of the upheaval of 2020.
In March, Ingebrigt Håker Flaten was visiting his native country Norway when the coronavirus pandemic shuttered Planet Earth.

But instead of trying to find a circuitous route to the States, he decided to relocate to Trondheim after more than a decade abroad, leaving his longtime Austin home, and start a record label.

The label’s namesake might be familiar to music fans – since 2015, the revered Sonic Transmissions music festival in Austin has presented Joe McPhee, Alvin Fielder, Perseph One, Black Spirituals, Obnox, Jaime Branch, Carmelo Torres and too-many-to-name legends, both established and fledgling, in the free jazz, experimental hip hop, agitated punk rock and psychedelic cumbia artforms.

The vision of this label is to release works connected to the Sonic Transmissions festival and its global community, both from previously recorded as well as upcoming concerts and performances. We want to provide a platform where artists worldwide can connect through music, thus enabling a continuous stream of activity during these times of stasis – and beyond.

Releases

The first release is Ingebrigt Håker Flaten’s solo album “Til Anna”, a gift for his godchild Anna’s confirmation ceremony.

A priceless gift, literally.
